ATTENTION: I've decided to put the upgrade on hold due to a compatibility issue of our server environment with the latest CS installer package. CS 2008 now requires SQL Server 2005 as the backend DB but our database server currenlty has SQL Server 2000 installed on it. I'll resume the upgrade once I figure out when Telligent is releasing a patch to the schema compatibility issue. For now, we will continue to use the old version of CS while waiting for the said patch. If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to post them on our forums and I'll answer them as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience and support guys! I'll let you know as soon as this is resolved. - Keith Rull

Hello
I wonder if all IT people enjoy what they are doing..
If mostly of you here are contented and 100 % sure of the career path you are taking into.
How would you know that you are right for the job?
Any insights.

You got to enjoy what you're doing. Every task related to your job must be met before the deadline or earlier, with eagerness to excel - it's like, there's no task to hard for you and liking the challenge it poses, like if a cat sees a mouse, by instinct it chases it no matter what - I couldn't really express it in words so I hope you get what I mean. Also, you should feel good when you finish your task - a sense of accomplishment or something. And of course, thirst for knowledge, you want to be "indestructible". If you can do that, then you're probably in the right path.
That's what I think anyway. Not neccessarily correct.

Do you enjoy everything you do? What if at some point in your work, you are not anymore enjoying, is it a sign that you should quit?
Anyway, thanks for the cat and the mouse..
It makes sense really..

Yeah, I could say that I have been enjoying most of my tasks -- but of course, there's no denying that sometimes, there's a little bit of frustration on stuff, but hey -- once you overcome that, then you feel good! Amarayt or amarong? (Especially those instances that you know will be impossible to accomplish, but you found a way around it - hehehe). Then in a sense you'll have that certain feeling of "pleasure", hence the feeling of enjoyment! Very addicting in my opinion. :D
You know what, "sometimes" I don't take my job too seriously -- I guess thats what makes me enjoy it, it reduces the stress (and somewhat boosts creativity? I often get great/bizzare ideas when I'm not too serious about it.). I don't think much about it, like you know, I just go with the flow! But again, that's me.
I'm just curious why you brought this up, are you having a delimma in your current job?

You enjoy what you are doing, and you have the passion on what you are working. If you are looking for growth and experience, maybe salary will take less a consideration, though you must also look for it. If you are not enjoying after a few months in your work, then there must be a problem between you or your working environment. It is really hard to work if you are not happy with it. It makes you lazy, stops your mind, and even creates stress which is one of the hard part of it.
So be sure you are enjoying, and the best part is you are learning.

Hi
I can relate to what you feel. :) I found out though that I don't have to be dependent on outside factors to feel good(same applies to you). For example, you feel down when others make you feel down, and sometimes strong when others make you feel strong. You have to be consistent, be independent of outside factors. True strength comes from the inside, and you should be the one influencing outside factos(people around you) and not them influencing you.
Thank you, this is also a good reminder to myself. :)

Convert limitations to great expectations... You are the creative force of your life...

For me, I NEVER enjoyed work.
Fear is what drives me to work. Fear that I won't be able to support my family and fear of what lies in the future.
In fact, if I would have the ability to travel back in time, I would hunt down those people who "invented" work

Crawler,
Yes that is right. Number one reason why we're working is to earn money; to earn money for us to provide not only the needs of our family but ourselves' needs.
Well if we can just choose not to work and earn money why not. But the thing is we don't have option, we have to work! So, might as well choose a work that you will enjoy and make you feel worthwhile.

Well, it took me 5 jobs to find the company and work environment that I enjoy staying in (so much so that I'm not "moving on" after more than a year there... and THAT is a long time for me). Maybe you just haven't found the right company environment

I agree with you Lattex. Back when I was in manufacturing company, at first I though I will like the company for good incentives, right salary, etc, but the problem is the environment. Environment really plays a key role for your success too, if don't like what you are doing, your officemates, your boss, etc, then it will greatly impact on your performance. Learn to socialize sometimes.
