For one thing, SF has a high-cost of living, one of the highest in the country. You have to consider this in your salary requirements. :)

Thanks for the reply, Marl. Yes, I've already considered that.

My question would be, where is the best place to lease a house? "Best" meaning safe and cheap.

There is no such thing as "cheap" when it comes to housing in SF. Are you staying there long term? If you want to buy a house in the SF area, you're looking at around $5,000.00+ monthly mortgage. And not to mention that that's only your typical 2-bedroom house. And I've heard that a one-bedroom apartment will cost you about $1,500.00 in monthly rent.

Any place in the Bay Area is a good place! I don't know what particular district you are going to settle in.You can start your search here http://www.rentalguide.com/districts.php

Housing depends on where you get the job.i suggest looking for an apartmentor a house close to your job because the traffic in SF is really bad. Try checking apartments.com first and check the reviews to be sure that what you are getting is not a lemon in rotten basket. And don't forget craigslist.com

That's the problem. I will need a house because I used to be a home-owner in TX before I moved to AZ and we have a lot of stuff. Definitely, I don't want to pay over 4K a month so I'm looking in the neighboring cities like Brentwood or Livermore. I heard rent is cheap there, but then I have to spend more than 3 hours of commute a day. Sanayan lang siguro.. he heh

pare, bumili ka n lang ng bahay sa Sacramento. yung 4K/month mo up & down na house na yun, then rent ka n lang ng studio type apartment sa around financial district tapos...

bro, 3 hours of commute is going to kill you. it's a lot of driving and alot of stress too. you'll end up exhausting yourself so much that in the end you'll probably want to go back to the city and pay top $$s for an apartment because you need to breath out of the traveling stress.

My suggestion is to get a house in around the 50 mile radius of your job. traveling less would make you more productive believe me. I used to travel 2 hours 1-way just to get to work and that was a pain.. 3 hours would be unimaginable for me.

9 hours of work + 6 hours in travel + 8 hours of sleep + 1 hour preparation to go to work = 1 whole day.

    that ain't gonna fly.

Did keith mention about the traffic in SF? hehehehe 6 hours travel + some time sitting on the traffic around the financial district = FOREVER!

I don't have an idea about developer salaries in Arkansas but i could tell you that it's lower than California.

CA salaries for entry-level devs is between 55K to 70K per year. I suggest you go to PayScale.com so that you could atleast gauge the salary for Arkansas.

So, you could easily estimate that Keith is earning at least around $100,000.00++ per year ("at least", so could be more). I knew it! Keith a 6-figure guy! That's about 5 Million Pesos a year!!!

Keith, 3 hours is both ways already, 1.5 hrs each way. But you're right, my commute in Houston was 1 hour each way because I lived in Katy and I did that for 3 years but still, I didn't get the hang of it. Here in AZ my commute is just 15 minutes one way, but Tucson is a very small city.

    Thanks for the input guys.

And it might be lower if you're an H1 visa holder.
