    Is 100K to 150K a month enough?

I wrote a forum post a week ago asking members of the forum about the current salaries for IT professionals in the Phillipines and it opened my eyes to the glaringly low numbers of the current salaries that developers are getting in Phillipines.

It came back to me what barakoboy was saying in response to my blog entry a few weeks back that we are underpaind and alot of the highly skilled and smart developers have already left Manila. This made me think... what if... what if you are making 100K- 150K a month in the Philippines? Would you still fly to Singapore (or any other asian country) to make a living?

    What if?

Would you leave the Phillipines and still fly to another country if you are making between 100K to 150K a month?

Re: Is 100K to 150K a month enough?

Depende yan... net or gross? LOL.

It depends really. I know someone (whom you know as well) who has a salary near 100K a month but having several children, it simply wasn't enough for the lifestyle+education that he thought his children deserved, so he still flew to SG.

Even if you have a 100K/month salary it's your needs + wants / salary quotient that will still determine if you are earning, "enough".

    Around 65K. 32% income tax, + SSS, Philhealth, Pagibig @ ~1000 each.

Well, that's the thing. Wala naman ibang magbabayad ng tax kundi tayo. Kung hindi tayo magbayad ng tax, nagaavoid ng tax ang big businesses, at hindi naman natataxan ang mga ordinaryong tao beyond VAT.

I dunno with you but -- okay na sakin yung nagbabayad ako ng buwis. At least may K ako magreklamo.

Mula 25,000 pataas, 32% na ang tax. I know this because I had to file my own ITR last year (kaya niyo yun? :P).

Mid-level? Bet 20K and 50K, I think. For .NET ah.

Can you trace your money to the pockets of these politicians? I can't. Anyway I don't want to argue, you guys know how rabid I can get when it comes to this topic. Pakabait muna ko ^_^

    Seriously though:

Is 100K constant, or is it a target at some point in your career? If it's constant, it's a big pile of bull crap. It should be target at a certain point in your career.

If so, when? 5 years? 7 years? 10 years into your career? Think about it very well -- but it is more important to think about...

Where are you now? A mere two and a half years ago a 100K/mo salary net seems intangible to me but lately I have been feeling that it appears... possible. Can I reach it in a year? Doubt it. Can I reach that in, say, three, four years? Pwede... but the more important question is:

How? Will you get there by working as an employee, or setting up your own business? Will you get there by working in your current company, or by joining some other company?

Let's jog our minds people! It's more important that we learn how to get the most out of possibilities and opportunities and benefit from those instead of wallow in the intricacies of taxation and corrupt governance!
