Hi! I read through the entire article. Still not enough to make me learn Ruby though... I told a friend that if he could show me something that I can do with Ruby that I can't do with Java then I would go learn RoR. Hmmmm... But Ruby might be a good thing for sideliines though since you can be really productive withi it with the basic database functionalities. Mass production!

truth is, there's nothing RoR can do that Java can't do. but depending on your web app, RoR can just enable you to do it faster and/or simpler than with Java or any other web platform. yun lang ang value proposition nya.

as for performance...it's on the slow side, from what I've heard. FastCGI can help speed it up, but it cannot approach the speed of Java and .NET.
