How about let's start earning money here in DevPinoy? Something like rent-a-coder (from scrach or conversions), or refactor-my-code (optimization), or freelancing (what goes around)....

We have number of talents here in DevPinoy, and I believe Keith can handle these talents Big Smile

Ok to!

I get a few emails here and there asking for filipino developers and I usually point them to several outsourcing companies. Maybe we could create something like a "DevPinoy Certified Consultant" program wherein we create a page of developers who are willing to do consulting projects that skills are validated by devpinoy. The page will have the consultant names, skills, portfolio, information on how to contact them and availability. We could also host it on devpinoy.com to seperate the community from certified consultants if you like.

What do you think?

Hmmm... People like myself have issues like what if my company finds out? Do you think we have a way around that problem?

Hmmm..  that's weird... they don't allow you to work on the side?

I think working on an IT project on they while fully employed should be ok unless you are working on a project that is similar to what you are doing for you company because they might thinking that you are disclosing secret information about your company.

We could create a person who will serve as the filter or middleman for all negotiations and all work that needs to be done would just then be routed to the developer. The middleman will serve as the project manager which will make sure that the project is delivered completely base on what the client wants. We should also make an agreement that we will not disclose the name of the developer if the developer does not want his/her information to be disclosed.

Would this work for you Lamia?

officially, my employer wouldn't let me work on the side. they reason that it would affect the quality of my work because my attention will be divided. so ayun...hindi lahat openly makaka-diskarte Wink

Hi Keith

Sounds good to me. Unfortunately I work in an outsourcing industry where multiple industries are involved. Besides that, working on the side is explicitly mentioned in my contract as against the company rules. But your suggestion should work, I believe.

So, how would we qualify as devpinoy consultants? You know most of us don't have an online portfolio or our works might be those that are LAN/Intranet based, or internet based but has restricted access.

Thanks

Hmmm.. good question. We could create a system wherein the only way you could be recognized as a certified consultant is by nomination of 2 other certified consultants. The nominated person will submit a resume to be reviewed by a board elected by devpinoy members. The board would then approve if the person is qualified or not and then he/she will take specific code quiz/task. the code quiz/task will be given by the board and will be based on the declared expertise by the nominated person. Upon completion of the said task that person will be recognized as a certified consultant.

oks ba yang ganyang systema? any suggestions?

Pretty good idea, how about extending it to accomodate juniors as well? How about starting off with a core group of certified consultants that would lead/supervise a smaller team of 1 to N juniors. After a certain amount of time or number of projects under the junior's belt the certified consultants can decide whether to elevate the status of the junior to certified consultant or another level and let him/her lead another team of juniors. Juniors who fail to perform within a certain range of expectations are given some time to 're-train' themselves and cannot be allowed to participate in any project for a certain period (3-6 mos?) after which they can try again as juniors.

This way, certified consultants can handle and supervise multiple fronts where they are needed the most and at the same time provide a good training ground for up and coming devs as well as build a substantial resource pool for future projects. Delegating certified consultants to supervisory levels also gives them breathing room when it comes to time as we all know that most here in DevPinoy have their own careers to worry about. How the juniors are screened will be up to you guys but I guess the threshold should not be that high as they are coming in as juniors after all.

The downside that I see with this idea is the management of these resources from an administrative point of view which will prove pretty tedious if the number of juniors grow. Of course when it comes to pay scale, juniors will have to settle with a smaller cut of the pie until they can prove themselves.

What do you guys think?

Hehe apologies for this long-winded post, but this project of yours is pretty interesting and would like to see it materialize.
