The pre-employment period... How boring...

It's only been two days passed but I already feel bored. My final pay is on-hold until next month and I don't really have anything to spend my time with but my books, laptop and PSP. But I don't want those right now.. I'm still stuck on dial-up, no movies that I can download.

I've been browsing through Jared Odulios blog and I saw one of his posts, http://jaredtech.blogspot.com/2007/07/rp-software-group-slams-poaching-by.html and I couldn't help but laugh. It brought to me Melvin Dave's podcast here in devpinoy. I really like these java people's attitudes towards technology, economic situation and all.

I'll be starting on December 3 on my new job. Best of luck for me! I hate going through the whole pre-employment process like medical checkups, NBI clearance, etc. I really hate paper works!

I couldn't get started on any of my personal projects, I think I really lost the drive right now.  Two weeks to go and I need to find a new place to live in(apartment, anyone?). So many things in mind, I wish I saved enough for my vacation... 

I'm having a terrible headache right now... I guess I have to turn off my machine for now. Laterz...

Thanks dude! I signed a 1 year bond but I guess 1 year shouldn't be too much of a problem. There's a lot of stuff involved and I'm really hoping I could still blog about the work I do and that they won't make an issue out of it.

Any guys want to join me? They're still in need of COBOL and Java(with Struts experience and optionally EJB and Oracle) programmer.

Congrats! This is what I do when join a new office and I don't have anything to do:

1. Find some. There's always a team mate or office mate that is running into some problem. You might be able to do some research for him or make some prototypes. You'll gain you some new friends and you might learn a thing or two in the process.

2. Observe. How is your new company different from the old one? How is it the same?

3. Learn a programing language - find the Programming language entry in wikipedia and pick one (or two). Smalltalk, Lisp, Haskell, Scala, Erlang. Every letter of the alphabet has a programming language named after it. There's even a language named Pepsi and Coke.

4. Learn a programming technique - test driven development, continuous integration, object-relational mapping. If you're new company is not using one of these, see how you can help.

5. Read the source of your favorite application or tool - Hibernate, Ant, etc. Improve your code writing skills by reading lots of good code.

6. Read philosophical books/articles - Mythical Man Month, Code Complete, Refactoring, GoF, Refactoring to patterns, Domain Driven Design, Agile Principles Patterns and Practices, Patterns of Enterprise Application architecture, Working Effectively with Legacy Code, xUnit Test Patterns.

7. Stick around on your manager's office. Have a chit-chat until he notices that you're not doing anything. Then he will give you some work just to get rid of you. :D

They will sure invite you for an exam and interview. Brush up on your problem solving skills(algorithms), your Java skills and communication skills(try to anticipate some questions).

Anyway, about java... All i can do is the algorithm practices where people are goood at like... sorting problem etc. use swings and vector object serialization I was able to create a phonebook that can save with a gui.

I do have a very good understanding of objects and how it can be applied, explained every sense of it... I want most of all my key objective is that it is my dream to be a java programmer.

Nga pala bossing. Hmm, I'm not sure if thats good enough for the company but if you can give me pointers, some walkthrough on how to be a goodprogrammer or if there's something I missed. Do tell boss.

If you can be my Guru. hehehe. Why not :P basta java wahahaha. (send you my resume asap)

Be a good programmer? Depends on what kind of programmer you want to be. Pero sakin, ito ang maibibigay ko sayo na words of wisdom hehehe.
