how to broaden your developer knowledge

i have this habit of listening to developer questions around my workplace.  if i know that the answer given by the other person is wrong rightaway, i find a way to inform both of them (respectfully of course) of the correct answer.  if in case i don't know about it, i just take notes of the problem and the provided answer (i usually have this text file of developer questions on my desktop).  Later that day, if i do have time, i'll try to search the internet, usually through usenet, to confirm the provided answer or to prove that it was wrong and bring it up with them over lunch.

some might think that i may offend the person that the query was originally asked from but my only concern is for us to be all working on the right track.

i do this all the time... but ofcourse you need to be careful not to offend the other persons feelings...

i also have this excel file in my desktop of stuff that i have heard and learned that i want to read more about... it usually contains questions that i get from my co-developers or just sudden burst of my logical mind talking to me about certain streams in the IT realm.
