And I almost turned my back against Java
A couple of days back, office had what we call a "village" hall meeting to give us a quick rundown of everything UNIT 1. Part of it was an introduction of "new joiners" and I'm one of them. One of the top brass asked us "new joiners" to say our name, tell a little something about ourselves and something interesting. When it was my turn, I said "I'm bald for I shave my head everyday and I'm a C# Developer working on Java projects". Quite a few chuckles were heard for this is...well sort of, bound to happen at some point.
Come Wednesday or Thursday, one of the PM's from another Unit approached our PM and asked about if he had anyone working on a different line of expertise. Of course he has and he actually has 2.(Myself and another colleague). The other PM even told me to think about it and let him know by 5:00 pm what are my thoughts about it and what's my decision.
It was rather tempting I must say. If I go back to C# then everything should be quite easier. I've been working with the language and technology for quite a while so all I have to worry about is understanding the business. I was hired to do C# work, though we were advised that there might some sort of Java Development on the side.
Well, I finally said..."No, I'm staying. I'll get the job done, I want to work with Java and the team"
I want to see the other side of the world. I want to understand it to have a better appreciation of both sides. I want to step out of my comfort zone and push myself to improve a little bit more. This is really, a new high for me and I like it. Plus of course, I've been having some personal issues about life as it is so again, this is a welcome change for me. The support that I'm going to get from my PM is I think more than enough (That Filipino looking Australian lad with a ridiculously low voice is a Java Architect) to get me on the right track.
I almost turned my back against Java...almost but no cigar
